Review: Grip-Par, a glove for learning and strengthening your golf grip

May 15, 2014 – When I was asked to test the Grip-Par training glove, I accepted without question, although I was somewhat sceptical about the outcome. In the golf market, you often come across aids and accessories that seem odd or impractical at first, you pay too much attention to them and in the end they quietly disappear. Will this be the case?

Grip-Par, guante de entrenamiento de golf

The Grip-Par is a curious glove, with a flap that comes out from the inside of the wrist. This flap wraps round all the fingers except the index when you grip the club, and fastens with velcro across your knuckles. With the Grip- Par, the hand keeps a consistent hold of the golf club, preventing the shaft from moving within the palm when the player involuntarily changes pressure during the different phases of the swing. This is especially so when you have the club at the top of the backswing.

I wonder how they realized that golfers tend to open their hand at the top of the backswing, and that with a simple flap on the glove the problem would be solved!

It’s worked very well for me, especially as it enabled me to keep a tight hold of the club with the correct grip position without having the hand in continuous tension, and helped me to hit good shots more consistently. This is a good solution for golfers, whatever their level. Just by improving their own grip their game will develop.

I also think it’s a really interesting product for golf academies and schools, where adults and juniors can use it effectively in their weekly training on the driving range and the golf course. In the Junior Golf Academy by Paula Marti & Carlos Vivas at CG Sant Cugat there are two promising golfers, Nina Rissi and Maria Blasco, who have tested the glove for MyGolfWay.com and have given us their feedback.

Nina Rissi (12 years old and handicap 6.7): “It holds my hand very well when I have the club at the top, but also in the downswing. I always find that the club moves in the downswing, and with this glove the shots are more controlled.”

Maria Blasco (14 years old and handicap 11): “I like it because it gives you great confidence. Your hand is tighly fixed to the club. It isn’t annoying when I train, and it’s comfortable because you don’t lose your hand position when you place the next ball.”

“From now on they’re going to use it when they train,” says Carlos Vivas, their golf instructor at the academy. ” The good thing is that Grip-Par will make them more aware of keeping a firm hand on the backswing and the downswing when playing with their usual glove.”

MYGOLFWAY.COM REVIEW:

This is an intelligent resource to fuse of your hand with the club, with which you notice an immediate improvement in the control of your shots. Highly recommended for golf academies and schools.

This is an aid for training the grip of the club. You cannot get used to wearing it always, because on the day of a tournament it might not be authorised.
