Crest Link – S.S.P. Chawrasia brings the first win for the brand on the European Tour

March 21, 2016 – India’s S.S.P. Chawrasia won the Hero Indian Open yesterday in Delhi Golf Club with a two-stroke victory to clinch his third European Tour title. This victory also represents the first win for Crest Link, the apparel brand that dresses him on the European Tour.

At last the favourite local player, who has finished second in this event four times, including last year when Anirban Lahiri defeated him in a play-off, is the winner. This time he held his nerve down the stretch to claim the Hero Indian Open, an event co-sanctioned by European Tour and Asian Tour.

The 37-year-old Indian player recorded a final round of 71 for a total of 273 – edging out South Korea’s Jeunghun Wang who finished with 68 for a total of 275. Chawrasia’s fellow countryman and defending champion Lahiri, who closed with a 69, was joint second.

S.S.P. Chawrasia broke his jinx to claim the long-awaited title at the challenging Delhi Golf Club and reclaim his European Tour playing privileges, which he narrowly lost last season after finishing 113th in the Race to Dubai. “This is very important as I don’t have a full (European) card. Hopefully, I am playing Olympics and World Cup and so it is important,” said the three-time Asian Tour winner.

“I am happy. I was nervous a bit but I focused and breathed in and out and controlled my nerves,” a visibly gleeful S.S.P. Chawrasia said.

“Actually I have been four times runner-up and I have been thinking I have to win this and it has always been a dream. So I am happy to achieve it.” Chawrasia was defeated by Lahiri in a play-off last year. He finished second in 1999, 2006, 2013 and 2015.
