July 3, 2026 – Barcelona Golf Academy<\/strong> celebrates one of the greatest achievements in the sporting career of one of its players. Alejandro de Castro<\/strong>, who took his first steps towards elite golf and completed his preparation at the Club de Golf Barcelona<\/strong> academy, will compete in The Open Championship 2026<\/strong> after securing an outstanding qualification through the prestigious Final Qualifying<\/strong> organised by The R&A<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The young Spanish amateur earned one of the five available places at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club<\/strong>, where on 30th of June he took on the traditional 36-hole marathon in a single day against some of the world\u2019s leading professionals and amateurs. It is regarded as one of the toughest qualifying events in world golf, with only 20 players, spread across the four Final Qualifying venues, earning a place in the oldest major championship in golf.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At just 21 years of age, Alex produced an outstanding performance. He opened the day with a superb 65 (-6) to move quickly among the leaders. Far from feeling the pressure during the second round, the left-handed player followed it with a solid 69 (-2) for a 36-hole total of 134 (-8), finishing tied for fourth and comfortably securing one of the coveted places in the 154th Open Championship<\/strong>, which this year will be played at the historic Royal Birkdale<\/strong> from 13th to 19th of July, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The significance of this achievement is even greater as it will mark his debut in a major championship. Every season, Final Qualifying brings together players from the DP World Tour, PGA Tour, LIV Golf, together with some of the world\u2019s finest amateurs, making successful qualification a remarkable sporting achievement.<\/p>\n

After securing his place, who now is the 52\u00ba at the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)<\/strong> admitted that it was difficult to express what playing in The Open meant to him, describing it as a dream he had pursued since childhood and one that has now become reality thanks to an exceptional performance.<\/p>\n

This success also crowns an outstanding run of form for the Catalan golfer. Just a few days earlier, he had recorded another excellent result by finishing tied sixth at the 2026 European Amateur Championship<\/strong>, held at Vanajanlinna Golf & Country Club<\/strong> in Finland.<\/p>\n

Alejandro is continuing both his academic and sporting development in American collegiate golf at Long Beach State University<\/strong>. At Barcelona Golf Academy<\/strong>, however, they feel a special sense of pride in seeing one of the golfers who began his journey towards elite competition at Club de Golf Barcelona<\/strong> now reach one of the biggest stages in world golf.<\/p>\n

His qualification for The Open also reflects the quality of the work carried out during his formative years as a player. The strong technical, competitive and personal foundations developed at Barcelona Golf Academy<\/strong>have accompanied his progress and helped establish him as one of Spain\u2019s most promising amateur golfers.<\/p>\n

This will be the second occasion on which Carlos Vivas<\/strong>, Head Golf Coach at Barcelona Golf Academy, accompanies one of his players to The Open Championship<\/strong>. We remember that he previously did so in 2017 with Australian golfer Ryan McCarthy<\/strong>, coincidentally also at Royal Birkdale, a circumstance that highlights the Academy\u2019s growing international reputation and that of its coaching team.<\/p>\n

For all the professionals, coaches, fellow players and members of Club de Golf Barcelona, Alejandro de Castro<\/strong>\u2018s appearance at Royal Birkdale is a tremendous source of pride and satisfaction. Seeing a player developed at the Academy competing alongside the world\u2019s greatest golfers at one of the sport\u2019s most iconic venues confirms that hard work, dedication and high-quality coaching can open the door to the highest levels of international golf.<\/p>\n
