Review: Cobra Golf AMP Cell Driver

June 20, 2013 – It’s exciting that a single golf club can has as much potential as the driver Cobra AMP Cell: lofts, colours, versions, shafts… So we were really looking forward to having it in our hands so that we could get to know all the technology and the sensations it has inside.

Cobra Golf has designed a driver with six different settings in a single head, without having to change the face angle, with a choice of four colours and three versions (Standard, Pro and Offset), and the test experience has been enormously rewarding.

On the driving range of Terramar GC in Sitges (Barcelona, Spain), the professional golfer Toni Alcázar, director of El Doctor Golf, has given it a thorough analysis, first hitting balls with the 9.5º loft, secondly with the 9.5º Draw loft, and third with the 11.5° loft, always with the standard shaft Fujikura Fuel, and Stiff flex, the most suitable for him.

It quickly became clear to us that its visual appeal is accompanied by top performance, with powerful shots that still give you good feedback sensations. After the session we studied its technical characteristics, adjustability details, the price… These are our impressions:

• The first thing that surprises me is the price. This driver for 299€… I think it’s the best value we’ve seen so far.

• It’s a fantastic club. I find it looks slightly more pro than amateur, but it is still an easy and very workable driver with a very good flight trajectory. It’s a golf club I would play myself, and for many of my pupils it would be just perfect thanks to its great adjustability.

• Although some may find it a little difficult to appreciate, because the difference is really quite small, as Cobra says, when you change the loft from 8.5º to 11.5º the golf ball goes higher.

• Also it is true that after hitting at 9.5° with a slight fade, going to 9.5° Draw the ball started going leftward, tending to draw. I like this aspect a lot, because there are clubs that are made in such a way that the ball reacts to soon towards the left, or that just by changing one degree the trajectory angle varies a lot. For some clubs, the change from Neutral to Draw offers an exaggerated change.

• I like the Cobra AMP driver Cell because it produces subtle changes at each setting, without the trajectory suddenly going from high to low.

  The AMP Cell driver proposes intelligent technology, along with a spectacular aesthetic, and with an adjustability system which is very simple to understand.

  You can complain that even though four colours are offered, the classic black is not included.
