First YOCPA Academy of 2025: Mozart’s Mass in C Minor

20/01/2025

First YOCPA Academy of 2025: La Capella Nacional de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations, conducted by Jordi Savall, will perform Mozart’s Mass in C Minor on a European tour.

The year 2025 begins with a highly significant musical event for early music. The first edition of the YOCPA Professional Academy (Youth Orchestra and Choir Professional Academies) will bring together a total of 60 musicians for a European tour, conducted by Maestro Jordi Savall.

The ensemble, composed of 30 members of La Capella Nacional de Catalunya (choir) and 30 from Le Concert des Nations (orchestra), includes 50% young professional musicians and singers under 39 years old. The choir singers will be conducted by the renowned Lluís Vilamajó, while concertmaster Lina Tur Bonet will lead the orchestra musicians. Together, they will perform an unpublished version of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, based on the research work of musicologist, conductor, and historical keyboard soloist Luca Guglielmi, who has revised and expanded the original manuscript with absolute respect for the material of the Salzburg composer.

The tour will include 7 concerts in some of Europe’s most iconic auditoriums:

  • January 24: Auditori Enric Granados, Lleida (Spain)
  • January 26: Stiftung Mozarteum, Salzburg (Austria)
  • January 28: Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg (Germany)
  • January 30: Palace of Arts – Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, Budapest (Hungary)
  • February 6: L’Auditori, Barcelona (Spain)
  • February 7: Palau de la Música, Valencia (Spain)
  • February 10: Philharmonie de Paris (France)

One of the highlights of this tour will be the concert in Valencia, which will be a solidarity event for those affected by the DANA storm. For this performance, a “special donation seating” will be set up to collect donations for the 32 Valencian musical societies affected by the natural disaster or for the Generalitat Valenciana, which will channel the funds to assist the affected people.

The entry to the charity event will be free, and tickets can be reserved on February 6, starting at 10 a.m., through the Palau de la Música of Valencia website.

The YOCPA project, supported by Creative Europe, has the main goal of recovering European musical heritage through historical criteria and transmitting interpretation techniques to new generations of musicians and singers. This first edition of the Academy is a unique opportunity for young talents to learn and improve their skills on the international stage, while strengthening the relevance of historical music in the current landscape.
