Fundació Centre Internacional de Música Antiga

The International Centre for Early Music Foundation was founded in 1997 by Jordi Savall and Montserrat Figueras to guarantee the recovery and revaluation of the universal musical heritage with exceptional works from the medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicist periods, with special attention to the musical traditions of the Mediterranean area.

Jordi Savall and Montserrat Figueras are the founders of the different ensembles that make up the Foundation’s concert activity: the instrumental ensemble Hespèrion XXI (1974), the vocal ensemble La Capella Reial de Catalunya (1987) and the baroque instrument orchestra Le Concert des Nations (1989), quickly placing themselves with all of them at the forefront of the interpretation of early music thanks to a new concept characterized by great musical vivacity combined with the maximum historical fidelity in their interpretations.

The International Center for Early Music Foundation annually develops a wide variety of activities aimed at the recovery and promotion of musical heritage: concerts, promotion of reflection and intercultural dialogue, pedagogical activities, social projects that bring music closer to the people who need it most, hospitals, prisons, preferential neighborhoods and refugees, all while contributing to the development of European humanistic civilization through music and art.
