New edition of the Festival of Music and History for Intercultural Dialogue at Fontfroide Abbey conducted by Jordi Savall

The Abbey of Fontfroide, located near Narbonne in France, will be the venue for the 18th edition of this Festival, to be held from 15 to 18 July. Jordi Savall will conduct the event, as he has done since its creation in 2005.

This year’s Festival will offer a total of eight concerts spread over the four days. Each night, Maestro Savall will conduct an evening concert with his prestigious ensembles La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Hespèrion XXI, Le Concert des Nations, Orpheus 21, and guest artists, presenting a repertoire that ranges from ancient music to more contemporary compositions.

The programme will be as follows:

  • Monday 15th July | Marco Polo “The Silk Road” – 1st part
  • Tuesday 16th July | Pro Pacem
  • Wednesday 17th July | De Profundis & Te Deum
  • Thursday 18th July | Maurice Ravel – Inspirations and Metamorphoses

In addition to the evening concerts, the festival will include four afternoon concerts, scheduled at 17.30h, in which several internationally renowned groups will bring a rich variety of styles and eras to the event.

The programme will be as follows:

– Monday 15th July | Ensemble Irini: PYTHIA – Vaisseaux de chair, paroles du Ciel

– Sunday 16th July | INTACTVS: Amor mi fa cantar (Love makes me sing)

– Wednesday 17th July | Paolo Pandolfo: Les joyes des elisées

– Thursday 18th July | Concerto Madrigalesco: Mozart et Eberl à Vienne (1786 – 1807)

Fontfroide Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in the 11th century, provides an ideal setting for this festival, with its impressive architecture and millenary history. Attendees will be able to enjoy not only the music, but also the beauty and serenity of this historic site.
