Jordi Savall, leading his prestigious ensembles La Capella Nacional de Catalunya, Le Concert des Nations (with 66 participants) and exceptional soloists, begins the second part of the tour of The Seasons by F.J. Haydn in Barcelona. The Maestro will conduct a series of four concerts in European halls: L’Auditori de Barcelona (24/05), the Philharmonie de Paris (27/05), the Théâtre du Capitol in Toulouse (28/05) and the Kulturpalast in Dresden.
In February, coinciding with the end of the Preparatory Academy, the first concerts of the tour were given in Santander, at the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria (27/02), and in Madrid, at the Auditorio Nacional (29/02).
The tour is part of this year’s first Professional Academy of the YOCPA (Youth Orchestra and Choir Professional Academies) project, with the support of the Creative Europe programme. The project’s main mission is the recovery of the European musical heritage based on historical criteria, as well as the transmission of interpretative techniques to the new generations of young musicians and singers, contributing to their professionalism on the international scene.
The interest and originality of the project is based on the combination of the experience of the professionals of the maestro’s ensembles with the emerging talent of new members selected through auditions held this year and in previous years. In this edition of the Professional Academy, 36 young professional musicians and singers under the age of 39 take part, together with 30 veteran professionals, led by concertmaster Lina Tur Bonet and prepared by choirmaster Lluís Vilamajó, all under the direction of Jordi Savall, who propose to recreate these emblematic works of the classical period as if they had just been discovered. After the successful version of The Creation, Savall presents Haydn’s other great oratorio, offering a new interpretation featuring a trio of specialised soloists, La Capella Nacional de Catalunya, Le Concert des Nations with period instruments, which, as the maestro states, presents “important challenges”, but which allows us to discover and enjoy all the beauty of this masterpiece, thanks to an interpretation which highlights the surprising creativity and imagination of a Haydn at the peak of his art.
