Barcelona was the start of a new European tour conducted by Jordi Savall with Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John Passion. Maestro Savall, accompanied by 47 musicians from his prestigious ensembles La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations, will give a series of 5 concerts in European concert halls: Philharmonie in Paris (18/03), Desingel – Blauwezaal in Antwerp (19/03), Seg Geneva Arena in Geneva (21/03), Ice Kraków Congress Centre in Kraków (24/03) and Konzerthaus in Dortmund (29/03).This tour is part of this year’s second professional academy of the YOCPA (Youth Orchestra and Choir Professional Academies) project, supported by the Creative Europe programme, whose main mission is to recover Europe’s musical heritage on the basis of historical criteria, as well as to transmit performance techniques to new generations of young musicians and contribute to their professionalisation on the international scene.
The exceptional nature of this project combines the experience of the professional musicians of the Maestro’s ensembles with the emerging talent of new members selected through auditions held in previous years. In this edition of the academy, which brings together more than 15 different nationalities, a further 28 musicians under the age of 39 have joined, contributing to create a harmonious cultural diversity in the ensemble.
