Jordi Savall and his orchestra LE CONCERT DES NATIONS triumph with Mozart’s opera La Clemenza di Tito at Mozartwoche 2024
The city of Salzburg has witnessed an exceptional musical event with Jordi Savall’s masterful conducting of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera La Clemenza di Tito. The performances featured the outstanding participation of the Philharmonia Chor Wien and the orchestra Le Concert des Nations, as well as a cast of internationally renowned soloists who captivated the audience with their unique interpretations. According to the reviewer of the Salzburger Nachrichten,“with Jordi Savall, Mozart Week now has, for the first time since Marc Minkowski’s departure, an opera conductor who meets the demands of Salzburg and its most important Mozart festival”.
The soloists, Edgardo Rocha, Hanna-Elisabeth Müller, Magdalena Kožená, Christina Gansch, Marianne Beate Kielland and Salvo Vitale, “under conductor Jordi Savall will offer a masterful festival of singing” (Der Standard), highlighting their extraordinary vocal ability and artistic expression. The three unique performances held in Vienna’s Felsenreitschule were highly acclaimed by a devoted audience, who gave Jordi Savall and his talented cast a standing ovation.
These concerts were organised in commemoration of the anniversary of Mozart’s birth and were an integral part of Mozart Week 2024, an event organised by the Mozarteum Salzburg Foundation and directed by Rolando Villazón. The city vibrated with the composer’s immortal music, and the excellent performance by Jordi Savall and the musicians left an indelible impression on the audience.
The success of this production once again confirms the excellence of the period-instrument orchestra, Le Concert des Nations, and of Jordi Savall’s mastery as a conductor, which allows him to capture the essence and grandeur of the classical pieces performed according to historical criteria, bringing them vividly to life in the present.
